The number of newly unemployed people is adding up in Hancock County, Kentucky after layoffs at two aluminum plants.
Century Aluminum laid off 20 employees and just Tuesday, Aleris let go 32.
Besides putting more than 50 people out of work, these cuts will soon have an effect of all of Hancock County.
A large part of the countys budget comes from occupational taxes and aluminum plants employ hundreds of Hancock County citizens.
Neither Aleris nor Century Aluminum let go any union workers.
Representatives say they hope laid off employees can be re-hired when business picks back up.
