Daviess County and Owensboro city officials say theyre off and running on their New Years resolution to work together to realize plans for downtown Owensboro.
Both new Mayor Ron Payne and Judge Executive Reid Haire say the two governments need to work together more closely than ever, combining assets and dollars to make the plans happen. They say local government cant rely on state funds.
Mayor Payne is proposing a four per cent insurance tax increase to help raise the $13 million dollars necessary.
More public revenue isnt all local government wants from the people, Mayor Payne and Judge Haire say, from now on, expect to see more joint work sessions and public forums.
The four per cent tax increase is still only a proposal.
So far, the chamber of commerce and the Fiscal Court have shown their support.
