Mesker Amphitheatre Shut Down for 2012 Season

The city of Evansville says the Mesker Amphitheater will not open for a 2012 season.

The city announced this week that the 61-year old amphitheater is in poor condition and needs a renovation.

Mesker Park Zoo officials say they are interested in running the facility and putting it under their banner,

The zoo's proposal is to rehabilitate the facility, move the entrance next to the zoo entrance and provide zoo demonstrations during the day.

Before the zoo can take over the amphitheater, the city says it will need to do further work to see whether it is feasible for the zoo to acquire the property.
