Princeton Man Involved in Mine Accident Using a Walker

State mine-safety officials are investigating an accident at a southwestern Indiana coal mine that cost a worker one of his legs.

Doctors amputated 34-year-old Kevin Truxal's left leg last week after he became pinned between a hauling vehicle and a coal-grinding machine at Five Star Mine near Petersburg.
The Princeton man is being treated at a Louisville, Ky., hospital.

Five Star Mine is owned by Vectren Energy. Utility spokeswoman Chase Kelley says state mine-safety officials are investigating the accident.

Truxal's fiancee, Elke Wright, tells the Princeton Daily Clarion that he's been using a walker and is "doing great" despite his injury and has not been depressed by his plight.

She says Truxal may need additional surgery, but if not, he will be going home.
