EVV Airport Runway Extension: State Rd. 57 Lane Shifts

By: Web Producer
Updated: June 11, 2012
The Evansville-Vanderburgh Airport Authority District announced that construction will begin on a -mile segment of Indiana State Road 57 eastbound and westbound beginning Monday, June 11th. Work will take place starting Monday, weather permitting, through August 2012.
The affected section is adjacent to and slightly southwest of Oak Hill Road, which is just north of the entrance to Evansville Regional Airport. Traffic will be shifted onto the existing shoulder and temporary pavement to the southeast and will reduce traffic down to 10-foot lanes. Work began this week to install the temporary pavement. No lane closures are expected at this time and delays should be minimal.
Blankenberger Brothers were awarded the $1,676,000 contract to realign this section of S.R. 57 designed by R.W. Armstrong.
The contract is related to a federally-mandated runway project that will shift Runway 4-22, the main runway at EVV, toward the northeast and away from the U.S. 41 and St. George Rd. intersection.
