Updated: June 20, 2012

UPDATE: Evansville Police say a Tuesday night accident may have been caused by two drivers who were street racing. It happened in the westbound lanes of the Lloyd Expressway just east of the Weinbach exit. Witnesses say two cars were driving west down the Lloyd Expressway and appeared to be racing at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.

Police say one of the alleged racers rear-ended a car that was not involved in the race, drove through a fence and into Division Street. That driver was taken to Deaconess Hospital with  injuries that appeared non-life threatening.

The driver who was rear ended complained of pain and checked him or herself into the hospital, but police say that driver is expected to be OK.

Police say the driver of the other car involved in the alleged street race remains at large.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Police are on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on the Lloyd Expressway near Boeke Rd.

The crash closed the Lloyd for a short time.

Dispatch has confirmed the center lane has re-opened, but traffic is heavy through the area.

Dispatch also says a caller reported 7 cars were involved.

A detective and crime scene have been called out to the scene.
