Weekend Weather Could Bring Large Crowds to Annual Sommerfest

By: Drew Gardner
Updated: June 21, 2012
This weekend's weather could help the Haubstadt community rebound from a few rocky years at the town's Sommerfest. The heat has been of some concern for the 46th annual festival--but the forecast for the weekend looks promising with slightly cooler temperatures.

Set-up was already complete early this morning and volunteers from local not for profits have been working throughout the day preparing food for their booths.

After two years of recovering from rough weather--organizers now believe they are poised to have one of their best years ever.

Marketing Director, Jeremy Overton says, "About a month before last year we had quite a few storms and it was a real community effort to get everything back to normal and of course this year we had the hail damage. There;'s still a lot of work going on around town with that, but we've made a lot of improvements and we were able to come out of that situation a lot better."

The food booths, rides and bierstube open at 6 tonight. There will also be live entertainment on two stages.
