Allied Waste Lifts Lockout....Temporarily

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: June 22, 2012
Union workers for Allied Waste are going back to work.  Not because there is a resolution to the differences between the union and Allied, but because the company has agreed to temporarily suspend the lockout.

According to a news release from Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, Allied has agreed to lift the lockout for 30 days while contract talks continue with the local Teamsters Union.

"I'm pleased that the employees of Allied Waste Services will be back to work. Going forward, we hope both sides continue to work diligently toward a final resolution. I have every confidence that the process of negotiations will be mutually beneficial", Mayor Winnecke said.

Allied locked out about 80 union workers last month, after contract talks stalled over retirement plan issues.  Allied wanted to replace the current pension plan with a 401K plan.

We will have more on this today on Eyewitness News First at Four.
