We depend so much on modern technology and its weather like this that makes it abundantly clear. Owensboro and Daviess County communications-- landline and cell phones, internet, cable --are out throughout the entire area, and in Henderson, theres no 911 service. Not being able to call, surf the net or watch tv is more than just frustrating, its dangerous. Ice and snow presents all kinds of problems, but not being able to communicate may be the biggest. Cell service is non-existent, internet and cable will be out for days, as well as land lines. Officials say theyre encouraging everyone to stay off roads, stay away from down lines, and use common sense. Thats good advice but theres almost no way for people to hear it. Utility repair workers have a long way to go, and until their job is done, important messages both to residents and *from* residents wont go far.
