New Harmony officials are excited over the Indiana Department of Transportation's decision to make a $10 million offer to build a new bridge. The bridge was closed a couple months ago after engineers found major damage to the foundation.
INDOT announced the offer Thursday during a public meeting in New Harmony saying it would cover half the cost of construction. The only condition is local officials must take ownership of the bridge. Town Council President David Campbell estimates the bridge will take 5 to 7 years to complete.
State Representative Wendy McNamara and State Senator Jim Tomes are hosting a town hall meeting this weekend to discuss options for the bridge. That meeting is Saturday 9 a.m. at the Ribeyre Gym in New Harmony.
