breaking news
Evansville Police are on the scene of two smoke shops seizing synthetic drugs or K-2. EPD's Drugs and Narcotics Unit tells Eyewitness News, it has been receiving information that both the GOATS on First Avenue and the one on Heidlebach were selling K-2, at least 20 calls a week from parents and concerned neighbors. Search warrants were issued for both locations and police say they have taken synthetic drugs, thousands of dollars in cash and other drug paraphernalia. More than 300 packets of K-2 were taken from the Heidlebach location alone. A few vehicles were also stopped after leaving the Heidelbach store and the officials say the subjects inside the car admitted to buying and using the drugs to get high. No arrests have been made yet, police say K-2 can not be tested in the field, it must be sent to a lab, but if results do come back positive, EPD says charges to the clerks, the owners and the customers are possible. Then EPD says it will make a recommendation to the Attorney General's Office to shut both businesses down for good. Eyewitness News is on the scene, we will have the latest tonight at 9:00 and 10:00pm.
