Evansville Movie Theater Reacts To Colorado Shooting

Movie theaters and movie goers in Evansville are talking about the tragedy in Colorado, and how something like this could happen anywhere. The shooting in Colorado happened while people were just trying to enjoy The Dark Knight Rises movie on it's premiere night. Showplace Cinemas in Evansville says even though the deadly shooting happened out west, it still hits close to home.
It's a horror story that played out at a Colorado movie theater. But this was not a movie.
"It was a shock just because were in the business here and so it hits a little closer to home I think," Dianne Miles said.
"It's tragic. Some guy just snapped or what have you. I mean people are just there to see, have fun, see a good movie. I mean it's just tragic," Andrew Johnson said.
Batman fan, Andrew Jackson came to see The Dark Knight Rises at Showplace Cinema East in Evansville. He says he feels safe, but you take a risk anywhere.
"I felt terrible for the people who were there and also glad I didn't go to an early showing. I just thought I'd come today when there would be less people around in the movie theater," Ryan Davis said.
Showplace Cinemas Marketing Director Dianne Miles says their theaters have security cameras and they have managers and employees patrol the auditoriums. Miles says they have no plans to add metal detectors or change any safety procedures.
"We do try to keep everybody as safe as possible. We do our best and to please don't let that stop you from going about your life, you really can't let it stop you from living your life," Miles said.
Miles says she hopes nothing like this ever happens in the Tri-State, and her prayers go out to the Colorado victims and their families.
Showplace Cinemas says they've gotten several calls asking if they're open Friday night. Miles says they are open and still have customers coming to see the Batman movie. In fact, some of their shows Friday night are sold out.
