EVANSVILLE - A fight between a woman's former boyfriend and fiance ended up with both men in the hospital Friday afternoon suffering stab wounds, according to Evansville Police.
For Sheila Lewis, life was already hard enough. She's facing eviction this weekend because she's unemployed and was having a yard sale to raise funds.
She tells Eyewitness News, "I'm going to be out on the street. The man could give me at least one more week. This has set me back tremendously." She continued, "What just happened here I don't understand, I don't know why, I don't want this man anymore and he tried to kill my fiance."
Meanwhile, an eyewitness, who doesn't want to be identified on camera, saw what happened next.
"The black SUV pulled on John Street at the dead end and accelerated and just hit the man, twice and then backed him up against the basketball goal and I screamed, 'call 911, call 911." She continued, "I grabbed my children and we ran."
Police tell me the suspect, who has not yet been identified, drove himself to Saint Mary's Hospital for his minor stab wounds. He's now in police custody.
The victim, who also hasn't been identified, is at deaconess hospital where his condition is currently unknown.
According to Lewis, "I pray for both of them. I hope neither one of them dies but he came over here looking for trouble and he got it."
