When Whirlpool closed its production plant in Evansville back in 2009, the company said it would retain about 300 development jobs at the facility.

On Monday, the company announced it is cutting those remaining jobs.  Employees were told the division will close by the end of 2014.

According to a statement from Whirlpool, meetings will begin with the Evansville employees to talk about options, which could include, retirement, relocation and severance.

Whirlpool spokesperson, Kristine Vernier said, "This decision was difficult and in no way reflects on the quality of work in Evansville or the support from the local community or the State of Indiana".

The company is currently working to centralize its refrigeration product development center into a current Whirlpool facility in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and plans to invest about 18 million dollars for renovations and equipment.
