Indiana State Fair Attendance Falls Short of Goal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana State Fair officials blame several hot days and some thunderstorms for keeping attendance this year's fair a bit short of their goal.

Organizers announced Monday that nearly 854,000 people attended the state fair during its 17-day run that ended Sunday. The fair had an 875,000-person goal, while last year's stage collapse-marred fair drew about 872,000 people with one day canceled.

Fair spokesman Andy Klotz tells The Indianapolis Star it doesn't matter how many great events and deals the fair offers if the weather doesn't cooperate.

The fair set its attendance record of nearly 974,000 in 2009.
