Kentucky Ready to Paint Blue Bridge, Indiana not Ready

Officials in Indiana say they don't have the money yet to pay to paint the bridge. It'll cost the Bluegrass State about $8.5 million to paint, but that money won't be in Indiana's budget until 2017.

Regardless of where the money is, people say the bridge needs an update.

"It's kind of become iconic, I guess. You know, we always call it the Blue Bridge, and people even give directions from there," said Karen Miller, of the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors' Bureau. "With our new Riverfront Development, it's very important we get it painted because you hate to look up there and see the way it looked. I know with our successful Bridge Day so many people walked over it and you could tell it desperately needs to be painted."

Kentucky does have the option of paying the full amount to paint the bridge, then have the Hoosier state pay its share back when the money comes in.

However, Kentucky officials haven't said whether that's something they'll consider.
