An Oakland City student is killed in an accident in Pike County.
It happened Monday around 12:30 pm.
The Pike County Sheriff's Office says 18 year old Kyle Butts of Francisco was traveling North on State Road 61 going to Pike Central High School to attend a welding class.
It appeared that his 2005 Ford Escape hydroplaned on the wet roadway spinning him out of
control and into the path of 1998 Mack Semi Tri Axle that was traveling
Southbound on State Road 61.
The Semi was driven by 41 year old Richard Bethe of Spurgeon Indiana.
Butts passenger, 18 year old Kalin Atkins of Oakland City was killed on impact.
Neither Butts nor Atkins were wearing seatbelts.
Butts was taken by ambulance to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Bethe refused medical treatment at the scene. Accident is still under investigation.
