Some Tri-State college students are taking some time to observe the International Day of Peace. At noon, University of Evansville professors and students gathered at Clifford Circle for a responsive reading and a bell ringing to mimic the Peace Bell that rang at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The bells that normally ring on campus were silent today except for the noon ringing. International Day of Peace is a day of global ceasefire and non-violence.

"We're an institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church," said UE student Nick Joyner, "and programs of social uplift, world peace, justice, these are things that are really central to our tenants and our faith beliefs."

This was the first year for the event at UE.
