UPDATE: An Ohio County woman is dead and Kentucky State Police say her estranged husband pulled the trigger.  Kentucky State Police say 32-year-old Jeremie Simpson broke into DamiAnn Simpson's apartment Thursday morning in Beaver Dam and waited for her to come home.

It's a crime that has shaken up a Beaver Dam, Kentucky neighborhood.

"I heard there was a murder, domestic case. You know there had been some problems over there I'd heard before. It's sad," Bill Ashby said.

Kentucky State Police say Jeremie Simpson broke into DamiAnn Simpson's apartment, waited for her to come home from work, and shot her.  But before the attack at Suburban Manor Apartments, troopers say Jeremie kidnapped three people.  They were not injured, but investigators are not saying who they were or how they may be connected to Simpson.

"This seems very calculated, but if anything, there's a lot to learn in this. It's very superficial. We're going to find out how he planned this," Corey King said.

Troopers say DamiAnn felt she was in danger and had filed an Emergency Protection Order.

"Don't know the stipulations behind that. This is really early in the investigation but that's something that we'll be looking into, the fact of now he violated that," King said.

Troopers on scene used a new piece of equipment called a Leica C-10 Scan Station, which photographed and measured the apartment, the back yard, and the wooded area.  They say the device will give them a more precise picture of the crime scene.

The 24-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  Jeremie was taken to the Ohio County Detention Center, and faces a number of charges including: murder, three counts of kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  An autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Louisville.
