breaking news
The uncle of a boy molested by a former Spencer County Reserve Police Officer says he's angry he will soon be let out of jail. Brian Hays was sentenced to 30 years back in 2007 for pleading guilty to child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor, but due to timed served and reductions Hays will be released in May 2013. The man didn't want his face shown to protect his nephew. A petition on change.org was started less than a month ago to stop Hays from early release in December. A judge denied that but this man says a May release date isn't justice. This uncle of a molested child knows pain and anger. His anger is towards the Justice System and Brian Hays, convicted of molesting multiple kids including his nephew. Spencer County officials say Hays was sentenced to 30 years, 20 to be served in prison, but Indiana law gives every convict one day credit for everyday served and Hays already served almost 500 days prior to his conviction. Authorities say Hays time was also reduced after taking college courses while behind bars. The uncle says his nephew is making strides, but fears releasing Hays gives him the chance to hurt others. If and when hays is released he has a message. We reached out to the Hays family but members declined to talk on camera. If Hays gets out in May, officials say he'll have five years house arrest followed by ten years probation.
