We owe so much to our military veterans, and some Tri-State students took time today to pass along the important message. Kids from several grades took part in this celebration at Burns Elementary School in Owensboro. The students sang several patriotic songs, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and the principal read the names of dozens of local veterans.
The kids got a special treat, too. They heard from Daviess County Sheriff Keith Cain, who is a veteran himself.
"Primary message will be everything we have," said Sheriff Cain, "everything we are is due to those people who are sitting in there who have served their country. Those individuals who during the very peak of their youth left the comforts of home and family and travel to places before they have never hear of to place themselves in the worst of harm's way, so we could enjoy the freedoms that we too often take for granted."
The events to honor our veterans go through the weekend, including a parade through downtown Evansville tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. and discounts at various chain restaurants. Also, vets and current military personnel can get in free at Mesker Park Zoo on Sunday.
