Checkpoint Nets Drug Arrest, Citation

By: Christy Monroe
Updated: November 22, 2012
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, Evansville Police and Indiana State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on First Avenue and Lohoff Avenue Wednesday night.

Sheriff's deputies say a total of 76 people went through the checkpoint. One driver received a ticket for driving on a suspended license. Six people were given field sobriety tests. No one was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

However, during Wednesday night's sobriety checkpoint, authorities arrested  27-year-old Derrick Meredith for allegedly dealing a synthetic drug called Salvia.

Meredith was a passenger in a car that entered the checkpoint last night. Deputies say he tried to hide nearly a dozen baggies containing the synthetic drug.

He's being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
