His father describes Gennix Starks as loving, kind and caring. But now the Starks family is mourning his death, wondering why it happened and what to do now.
The rings around Irvin Stark's eyes are from tears he hoped he'd never shed. It was a normal Wednesday night. Starks and his girlfriend on the couch, four year old Gennix lying in the floor watching television.
"He had a habit of kicking the television stand," says Irvin. "I usually get onto him and tell him to stop, but on that night the TV had scooted forward enough that when he kicked it, it just came down. I jumped up and tried to get to him and it was too late."
Gennix was rushed to the hospital, but pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Gilda Turner is Gennix's great aunt. She says she and her family can only do so much to quell her nephew's pain.
The Starks have set up a memorial fund to help pay Gennix's funeral expenses. If you'd like to donate you may do so at any Old National Bank location nationwide, and ask to send the money to the Gennix Starks Memorial Fund.
