The Public Service Commission, on Monday, assigned 3-6-4 as the area's newest dialing prefix. It will cover the same geographical region as the current 2-7-0 area code, meaning current numbers will not have to be changed.
What will change, is that beginning in 2014, ten digit dialing will be required for local calls.
Final implemention of the new area code is still a year away, and the first 3-6-4 numbers could be assigned in March of 2014.
