The Kentucky House is introducing a bill to protect both passengers and drivers of public transportation, its House Bill #25. It would increase the penalty for those assaulting a driver or a passenger and some in Henderson say its a good idea. The bill was just introduced to the House this week. There's tons of video showing fights on buses and this is what those in public transportation want to avoid. "99 percent of the passengers that ride appreciate the service but just like anything else you're gonna have that one percent and some of them want to cause problems," says Henderson Area Rapid Transit Driver Dennis Yancy. He has been on the job for almost four years and says there's more good than bad on his buses, but he sees his fair share of chaos. "A lot of people have problems with alcohol they should keep it at home but they don't, they get o the bus which is not a problem until they start getting loud and bothering other passengers." Yancy says he supports the House which wants third degree assaults to include assaults on an operator or passenger of public transportation, he feels drivers should be held accountable for their actions and the passenger should also. 94 year old Ola Mae Clark has been riding for 25 years, for many they depend on buses and want them kept in order, she says "I don't think you should be rude, I think you should be nice to people." If the House has its way, blows on the buses may have some hefty penalties. If the bill passes the House, the next stop is the Senate, if its successful there its up to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear to sign it.
