Tri-State Responds to Obama's Gun Restriction Proposals

Tri-Staters on both sides of the gun control debate are speaking out on President Obama's proposed gun control members.
At Right to Bear Arms gun store in Haubstadt, gun supporters say Obama is going at the gun control debate the wrong way. Zach Holt opposed the proposed assault weapons and high capacity magazine bans. He says if enacted, they won't make anyone safer.
" I don't think an attack on assault weapons and high capacity magazines will give us a real sense of security," he says. "I think it's going to be a false sense of security."
But some support the proposals. Amy Wilkinson of Evansville says no one in the general public needs to have assault rifles and magazines that hold more than ten rounds at a time.
"I really don't think we need to have all those large capacity magazine clips available to the general public," she says. "That should be something that should be kept with the military."

President Obama's $500 million gun control plan includes:
- Congress reinstating the ban on assault weapons and limiting ammunition clips to 10 rounds
- Hiring more school resource officers and counselors
- Requiring universal background checks for anyone buying a gun.
