Lady Vikings Basketball Team Supporting Their New Teammates

Today the North Posey women's basketball team made made some changes to their usual red, black, and white school colors to help a team member out. Some may be wondering how students from New Harmony High School are transitioning after the school closed down last spring. Most students now attend North Posey and today one of the former Rappites got a little help from her new Viking team members.
Every year seniors on the North Posey women's basketball team must complete a 'give back project.' One of the seniors this year? A former New Harmony student who came to North Posey after the school closed down. Now she's using the project to give back to her former Rappites. "We had a gym in New Harmony and it was part of the old school New Harmony. It's been there for a really long time. They decided to make a group to restore the gym and we actually are just raising money to restore that and make it better," says Kendall Morris. Morris is part of the organization RGRG that helps raise money to restore the historic gymnasium in New Harmony. "Kendall wanted to do her's with the Rappites gym. She told me she thought they had some old warm-ups if we'd be ok with them wearing those to bring awareness to it," says Lady Viking's head coach Tracy Stroud.
It's been about a year since New Harmony merged with North Posey, who's colors are red, black, and white. But, if you look closely in the crowd today you might just see a hint of New Harmony blue, and the idea was a slam dunk."None of the team mates really was a negative reaction. Everybody was really positive about it. They were like sure, whatever. Anything helps, so they were really good about it. They were really nice about it," says Morris. "Wince they were going to wear the blue warm ups, the coaching staff all wore blue shirts today," says Stroud. Morris and coaches agree, on or off the court, the Rappites and Vikings have made a pretty good team. "It's just bringing back up old memories," says Morris. "It's hard to know how they feel giving up their school like that, but they've been great fit for us and we're excited to have them," add Stroud.
If you would like to help out with the gymnasium restoration, the RGRG will have a dinner benefit February twenty-third in New Harmony.
