A family emergency forces new Indiana Governor Mike Pence to cancel his entire Thursday schedule, including a trip to Evansville.

A statement from Pence's office says First Lady, Karen Pence, is in the hospital where she underwent emergency gallbladder surgery Thursday morning.

Pence was to have started his day in Jeffersonville, checking out the beginnings of a bridge project.  He was then scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at the Evansville Kiwanis Club, and meet with USI President, Doctor Linda Bennett.

No word on when the trip might be rescheduled.
