Illinois Looking to Raise Taxes on Tennis Shoe Sales

Illinois wants people to pay an extra quarter to buy new athletic shoes. A state representative from outside Chicago wants the new tax to pay for a Youth Job Preparation program. The Democratic lawmaker says the plan would raise about $3 million, and consumers wouldn't notice. But there is of course opposition to the new tax. Illinois merchants say it will create extra paperwork for stores that sell shoes.
