We've got an idea now of just how blue Owensboro's Blue Bridge will become and a more specific timeline for the painting project. The bridge will remain blue, but a bit different shade than it is now.  It will be the same color blue as one of the bridges that connects Covington, Kentucky to Cincinnati.

The plan is to close the Owensboro bridge May 12, which is the day after the International Bar-B-Q Festival. It will reopen November 15. However, officials say there may be some lane restrictions and overnight closings before mid-May. They also expect traffic interruptions as they continue the work through much of 2014.

"During that period," said Kevin McClearn of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, "they'll be painting the undercarriage and the handrails. There will be lane closures. There may be some night time closures as well that we're gonna allow.  Again, we'll ask for notice and get public information out in advance, so travelers will know to avoid the area."

The state plans to open bids on the project February 22. The official detour during construction will be U.S. Highway 231 and the Natcher Bridge.
