Owensboro leaders have made their stimulus dollar wish-list and adult education is right near the top. Local colleges want money to help people who may have lost their jobs learn the latest skills that will help them re-enter the workforce.
Owensboro Community and Technical College already offers classes in welding and automechanics, two fields hurting during this economy, but administrators say a condensed and more flexible version of the program might make going back to school a reality for those who cant afford to be out of work for long.
Local schools wont be asking for this money alone. Owensboro and Daviess county leaders have put the Green River Area Development District in charge of organizing the areas stimulus request to Frankfort.
