The Sheriff's Office says they received a call just after 11:00 Tuesday night about a woman that was in danger of hurting herself at a home on Morton Avenue in Lewisport.
A Sheriff's Deputy says when he got to the home, Marla Cooksey, 40, was pointing a shotgun at him. He says he then called for backup from Lewisport and State Police, but before they arrived the deputy says Cooksey re-emerged from her apartment and fired several shots from a handgun. The deputy wasn't hit, but authorities were able to call Cooksey and convince her to surrender.
"She came back out of the apartment, stepped out onto the porch, wielding a handgun, firing seven shots at the officer's car. None struck his car, but they struck other cars in the area," says Hancock County Sheriff Dale Bozarth.
Cooksey faces charges ranging from wanton endangerment to attempted murder. The Sheriff says Cooksey underwent a mental evaluation before being taken to the Breckinridge County Jail.
